Frequently asked
Does my WEBM get uploaded to a server? +
No. The audio is extracted and encoded in your browser with WebCodecs and an in-browser MP3 encoder. Nothing leaves your device.
What happens to the video? +
The video track gets dropped. Only the audio is decoded from the WEBM and re-encoded as a standalone MP3 file.
Why does it take a few seconds? +
MP3 has no native browser encoder. The WEBM's Opus or Vorbis audio gets decoded and re-encoded with a LAME-based encoder. Longer clips take a little longer.
